Sailed on a missionary voyage in 1798 in 'The Duff'. According to Kathryn Soddy (b.1965) the second 'ill-fated' voyage of 'The Duff' occurred during the Napoleonic wars. The Duff was trapped in the English Channel off the Downs. They visited the Isle of Wight and he was mocked by young boys when he tried to convert them. Later they were captured in mid-Atlantic by the French and interred at Rio. When Portugal changed sides they returned to London, and William demanded his money back!
